The Sustainable Vanilla Initiative: Re-vitalizing an Industry Platform for Sustainability
Sustainable Food Laboratory
Sustainable sourcing is growing on the agenda of many food and beverage companies and vanilla is gaining attention as a crop with risks (social conditions and environmental practices) and of opportunities, where investments in more sustainable sourcing can both address supply chain challenges and improve the livelihood of producers. The Sustainable Food Lab, together with a partner organization, the Netherlands based Sustainable Trading Initiative (IDH), are working to launch an industry platform for dialogue and scaled up investment in development and sustainability in key origins such as Madagascar. Companies including General Mills, Givaudan, Nestle, Prova, Symrise, and Virginia Dare have contributed to the scoping, design, and launch of this initiative. During this session, Don will share the findings from the scoping phase around key challenges and opportunities and the emerging goals and targets for the Sustainable Vanilla Initiative.
