As we have seen in the last decades vanilla production in the countries of origin went from one crisis to the other. Cured vanilla bean prices showed extreme volatility .
As a result many sustainability projects started to help the growers to stay into production. A few companies started producing vanillin from Natural sources to replace real vanilla. Controlled Vanilla production in a plantation system in Costa Rica failed due to using the wrong vanilla. Most companies in the vanilla business tried to keep their beloved flavor alive.
Is has been suggested that countries with expertise in agriculture should think about the possibilities to start growing vanilla in green houses. Up till now Vanilla plants have been grown in few green houses for research purposes only. This presentation will discuss the feasibility of commercial greenhouse production of Vanilla; the challenges, opportunities, the economics and stability it possibly can bring into the vanilla biz.
